Dudley O’Shaughnessy is 27 and was born in East London. He rose through the ranks of amateur boxing and became British amateur welterweight champion in 2010. Does he look familiar to you? Well, fun fact, you might have seen him in Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love‘ music video. His career as a model and actor took off – with acting being the thing that scared him the most – and he has since worked for a number of luxury brands. We stepped into the ring and talked all things Dudley.

JACK WILLS: What workout routines do you love, and what do you hate?

DUDLEY O’Shaughnessy: I love going to the boxing gym. I love to live off my impulses and being a boxer, it’s constant impulse. From skipping to bags, to shadow boxing, to sparring, and just being able to live in the moment – it helps me get me out of my head. Just to free my mind is what I love to do.

JW: Do you consider yourself an athlete?

DS: No, I don’t. The reason being, because I’m not in the gym everyday but I do understand the mind-set of an athlete and what they put themselves through. I feel that in my mind I’m an athlete, but I’m not physically. Acting is a lot of reading, a lot of writing, and a lot of thinking. Whereas boxing is a lot of going to the gym, three times a day, going for a run. It’s the same thing, but it’s different. I don’t consider myself an athlete but I consider myself a sporty determined individual.

JW: What does working out do for your life?

DS: It helps me avoid depression; it allows me to live in the moment. I feel good; I can carry on with the right mind-set. Thoughts get into my head that really shouldn’t, so it allows me to stay healthy. I don’t feel crap about myself. I don’t eat crap; I don’t do things that make me feel crap. I just do what makes me feel good and balanced.

JW: What do you like to do to relax and take a break?

DS: Sometimes I just sit there and be still. I like to read. I like to write. I like to watch films. I like to run. Occasionally I’ll play World of Warcraft. I like to talk to people and sharing makes me feel relaxed.

JW: What is your ultimate goal in life?

DS: My ultimate goal in life is to become a master of acting and to never place any person or materialistic thing above or below me. Just everything to be equal, I never want to get too egotistical.
